THE YEAR IN PICTURES JUNE 2009

JUNE 16 CANADA WIDE CAMPAIGN KICK OFF EVENT IN VANCOUVER



Past National Chief Phil Fontaine and me at the Canada Wide Kickoff. The CCEPIRSS board (Coroporation of Catholic Entities party to the Residential SChool Settlement agreement had an AGM in Victoria just before this event which was held in Vancouver as a first public event for the campaign. The commitment of the Catholic Entities towards this agreement is to provide $29 Million in cash, $25 million of In-Kind services and carry out a best efforts Canada Wide fundraising campaign to raise another $25 million, all for reconciliation and healing. The federal government is to provide compensation to former students of the flawed system of the residential schools.

The food line at the reception for the newly initiated candidates. unfortunately I do not have pictures of the celebration itself which involved streamers in the four directions, a procession around the gathering with a drum and a star blanket for the collection. Fr. Bill and I made it just on time for the celebration, joining Fr. Susai the pastor who is working hard at learning Cree and pastoring both Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows.


JUNE 19 HEALING SOUL PAIN GRADUATION CELEBRATION

Iva, Ethel and Bill are the graduands being honoured by a treat at the local Dairy Queen. Healing Soul Pain is a program developed by Dr. Jane Simmington of Edmonton that deals with trauma recovery and grief support and is proving to be very effective in helping people heal from life's hurts.

The retreat for the candidates was given by a dedicated team led by Dorothy Dubrule.Unfortunately I do not have a picture of the whole group of 90 candidates that was confirmed.

The candidates take in a retreat given by Bishop Sylvain and Fr. Wendelin to help them grow in their faith in Jesus, knowledge of the Holy Spirit and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
